COMMON NAME: Eyed Click Beetle
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Alaus oculatus

I’ve sighted this beetle only once that I’ve noticed. A day last summer when it was crawling on a tree trunk outside my kitchen window.
I read that they feed on nectar and plant juice.
Here’s a rear view. After taking these two photos the thing was gone.
Texas is as far west as these beetles have been found in the U.S. They are also found up to North Dakota and east to Quebec, Canada and down to Florida. Here on this Acre In Texas, I’ll be keeping an eye out for more of these as the weather warms again.
